A wave crashes overhead, the underworld remains undisturbed, save for sand lifted up by a lonely diver.
I call this a "digital embroidery" as it is a stitching together of hundreds of photos of plants: flowers, fungi and lichens. These have been collated into a surreal underwater world.
The individual photos have all been taken by me. We are surrounded by a plantscape that so often we take for granted and maybe don't even look at. It fascinates me to photograph the tiniest of plants and reveal their detail and then draw them together in a way that makes then fascinating.
Chinese embroidery has had a big influence on my photography and art. In particular the way that scale is not "real" in the sense that it is used in western art. It is perfectly acceptable to have a tiny bird alongside a large lotus flower.
