DESCRIPTION
Oshún is an orisha in Yoruba mythology who rules over love, rivers, health, diplomacy, and fertility. She is also venerated in Afro-American religions of African origin. Her name comes from the "Osun River," which flows through Yorubaland (present-day Nigeria). Yoruba mythology and spirituality portray Oshún as the one responsible for cosmological forces, harmony, attraction, and, above all, the forces of water; furthermore, she is omnipresent and omnipotent. According to ancient tradition, Oshún was the only woman sent by God to create the world, which is why she is known as "the sweet Mother of us all."
