Paradox of a Gaze (Single)
DESCRIPTION
This photograph is a self-portrait inspired by the famous painting "The Death of Marat," capturing a moment of introspection and emotional ambiguity. Through this image, I explore the misunderstandings that can arise between personal expression and the perception of emotions by others. The monochrome palette and the confined composition may evoke inaction, harmlessness, or even ideas of death and coldness, reminiscent of historical artworks. However, as one lingers on the subtle play of light and blur, the viewer's gaze is inevitably drawn to my eyes, which, far from being passive, become threatening. Thus, the observer, who initially approached the work passively, finds themselves caught in the gaze, reversing the roles between the hunter and the hunted.
