In a world where the material and technology allows for absolute control over the image, this black and white series, titled BW Type +, seeks to capture the unpredictable. For over 11 years, I have traveled the world with the same film camera, an old Voigtlander that offers me no control over autofocus or contrast. Each photo is a total act of trust between the camera, the moment, and me.
My work does not aim to turn a blind eye to reality, which is often marked by crises, war, and climate change, but to offer a different perspective: one that highlights the beauty, always present in this world. These images capture moments where people share, celebrate traditions, embrace each others and spread love, reminding us that, even in the shadows, light persists.
BW Type + questions the pursuit of perfection and invites us to see beauty in what is beyond control. It is an ode to hope, a way of showing that, despite everything, the world is also filled with healthy, beautiful, and deeply human moments. HM.

DESCRIPTION
AUTHOR
My name is Hugo Mercury, I am a French photographer based between New York and Spain. Every time I travel, I bring my analog cameras with me. Through these journeys, I explore different places and capture whatever draws my eye. I am particularly drawn to the unique atmosphere and stories that film photography can reveal. Once I’m satisfied with the results of my work, I organize exhibitions to share these moments with my family, closest friends and people who want to appreciate what my eyes see. My passion for photography led me to meet people, share memories, explore and continue to seek new ways to showcase my vision. This passion is the best way for me to bring the viewer into my own adventure. HM.
