In Durmitor National Park, Montenegro, this series captures the essence of rural life through the story of Toma, a local shepherd.
The first image presents Toma standing proudly with his sheep. His weathered face and calm demeanor tell a story of resilience and connection to the land.
The second image shows his flock grazing peacefully in the majestic mountains, highlighting the harmony between man and nature.
The final image depicts a solitary house across from the grazing sheep, showing the simplicity of life in this remote wilderness.
After the portrait, Toma asked for a ride dow the mountain to his friend’s house where they make local cheese. I happily obliged, all the while wondering how he would get back up to his sheep, but then realizing—this rugged path is second nature to him, a testament to his unwavering bond with the land.
