I was driving on a dirt road in some far-flung place Norway when I passed these sheep resting near the road. Sheep are gregarious creatures, and in this area of Norway they are grazing outlying fields every summer, which probably reinforces the bonds between them. As I carefully approached the sheep in my car, their appreciation of their own community was obviously far more important than their fear of an approaching vehicle; I slowed down and took this photo. When I drove off, I had the feeling of having visited a social community, which humans are normally cut off from: Their community, their social virtues and their connection with the land were all obvious features.
