While working on this project, I thought about how people still discover bones of previously living creatures during coal excavations. The skulls and spines of vertebrates settle into layers of the Earth’s crust, recording themselves and becoming a source of knowledge for us. This means that we, too, are already part of the future geological stratum.
I also considered how both mountains and vertebrates have ridges, suggesting that the human body has its own landscape, and the landscape of the Earth possesses cor- poreality.
To make this image I used: Mamiya RZ67 PRO II + 140mm f4.5 Macro Lens, Ilford HP5 Plus 120 Roll Film, Imacon Film Scanner.
