Early one morning, I became fascinated by the glowing advertisements that remained bright, even when the streets were empty. This curiosity led me to photograph these billboards, revealing how modern individuals are exposed to advertising everywhere.
Amid the flood of repeated images, the videos, both dazzling and soothing, unconsciously merge with our desires, creating new fantasies. Eye-catching ads—especially those designed to captivate our gaze—often feel like scenes from a movie, using attractive faces and glances to hold our attention. As display technology advances, advertisements blend seamlessly with the environment, becoming essential elements of the urban landscape and subtly shaping the cityscape without us even realizing it. Living within this flood of advertising can be exhausting. Although the long-term impact of these ads on individuals remains to be seen, the absence of such displays might make cities feel less dynamic and lively. While advertisements enrich urban environments, they also reveal how we, as individuals, are increasingly influenced by appearance-driven ideals. To explore the role of advertising in urban spaces, I used acrylic paint directly on the ad frames to express their presence within the city.
