Experimental nominee

Recently I have been experimenting with environmentally safe darkroom developing processes using Vitamin C, baking soda and/or coffee. I love the unexpected and the challenge of working with a new process. I was able to develop a number of pinhole images using these combinations on my first few tries, which I am very proud of, but what ended up in the "garbage pile" is what I am most proud of. This image is a scan of photo paper, developed in coffee and vitamin C, left to be throw away because of the improper exposure. A few weeks after leaving the unwanted prints in the sink, the most intriguing image as a result of the coffee and vitamin C residue sparked my creative mind. I scanned the prints and immediately saw the potential. I could not disregard the beauty it presented to me. I hope this image engages anyone who views it and creates that moment of wonder.

I am a retired nurse, mom and a photographer. What makes me the happiest is creating from things around me and using the alternative and digital methods together to create something magical. The ideas are sparked by simple objects around the house and yard. One day it's a grape stem another is coffee grounds...toilette paper roll...I want people and especially children to know that you don't have to go far to create art. The world is full of small wonders!
