As I walked through the night, I knew something was waiting for me. (Single)
DESCRIPTION
The artwork is inspired by my belonging to Arctic Northern, to the light, the dark time, the seasons and my Sámi cultural heritage. In the project, I work at the intersection between photography, environmental art, surrealism and sculpture. I illuminate nature with LED lights, and built light installations out in the landscape. I wanted to transform ordinary landscapes into a place filled with silence, beauty, mythology, and at the same time tell something about our fragile present. In the work process, I focused on several indigenous perspectives that I wanted to influence the work. I wanted to highlight topics such as holistic nature management, about creating an understanding of nature's mechanisms, functions, vulnerabilities and that we humans are an inseparable part of nature. And how people's interaction with nature affects and shapes the legacy of future generations. Nature and humanity have lived together since time immemorial, an interaction that has developed and refined great and rich cultures, and given us humans everything we need to live fulfilling lives. Paradoxically, the distinction between humanity and nature has become increasingly prominent, which has led to mismanagement of natural resources and caused major environmental problems.
