The passage of time and the experience of it play a central role in my art photography. For this work, I drew inspiration from still lifes from the Middle Ages, using their composition, lighting, and object selection as a guide. A bouquet of artificial flowers is at the center of the image, accompanied by long-lasting food items that I found in local stores.
Still lifes were originally painted to remind us of our mortality and transience. But what if the objects depicted are (almost) immortal? Does our mortality then become irrelevant? Do we forget the proportions? Or does our own death become even more present to us?
These are the questions I pose with this work, accompanied by a touch of humor that is expressed through the objects, such as the Dirtea iced tea or the candy sushi platter.
