Le seul rêve (the only dream) is a photo-documentary project set in Georgia, aiming to highlight the ambitions of children aspiring to become professional wrestlers. With a poetic and admiring gaze, Vincent Duluc-David captures the delicate balance between gentleness and violence.
Through multiple trips to the Caucasus region, the project explores the themes of social determinism and the notion of "making men," reflecting on the future paths these children will follow. Set in post-Soviet environments, the photographs capture moments suspended in effort while questioning the historical and temporal context.
These young wrestlers, innocent like children yet serious like adults, show enthusiasm and timidity in their eyes. Their sculpted bodies already bear the marks of intense sport: cauliflower ears, scratches, and scars.
The aim of the project is to present a non-exhaustive view of the aesthetic and cultural similarities and differences among these young wrestlers, while highlighting their sociological perspectives.
