Seascape nominee

The "Homage to Rothko" series draws inspiration from the mesmerizing work of Mark Rothko. While taking these photos, I aimed to evoke the textured, layered feeling of his paintings. By moving the camera vertically, I wove a canvas-like texture from the horizontal waves. Using techniques like Intentional Camera Movement (ICM) and high ISO, I transformed seascapes into abstract blocks of color, echoing the simplicity and emotional depth of Rothko's signature style.

Zili Zhang is a fine art photographer based in Greenwich, Connecticut. His portfolio includes a wide range of subjects, from soothing landscapes, street portraits, to creative photography. For Zhang, photography is much more than just capturing the moment, it can be a powerful tool to convey ideas and evoking emotions. His work embodies his motto of "Simple. Beautiful. Meaningful.”
