Visions of eARTh (Series)
DESCRIPTION
"An aerial photo, an immediate feeling of naturalness, of amazing experience. Seeing from a bird’s perspective is not consistent with seeing from the ground. It took you quite some time to be able to condense information from such a large scale of vision and when you fly and take photographs, shadows lift objects from the ground, allowing the viewer to be drawn into the photograph as if going beyond the real to the more real. I got in touch with a pilot in Iceland that I worked with very closely and I mainly used an ultralight aircraft, so I could fly much slower and lower allowing me to take my pictures without the orientation of the horizon. When I arrived, the pilot told me we were about to fly over a peculiar area in Iceland. My book "Iceland: Visions of Earth" is a photographic study in transformation. From above, the landscape ceases to be familiar, shifting instead into something more fluid, more primal. What once seemed solid reveals itself as movement held still for a moment in time, dissolving into pigment and abstraction. There is no horizon to anchor the eye, no clear division between the literal and the imagined...
AUTHOR
Massimo Lupidi is a self-taught photographer based in Italy, with expertise spanning environment, fine art, aerial views and landscapes. With over 30 years of photographic experience, he has captured production shots for numerous exhibitions, magazines, brochures and books. Her attention to detail, her ability to spot the extraordinary in everyday life and her innovative perspective-taking guide her work. He always strives to adequately reproduce, if not expand, human vision. His love for aerial photography has led him to capture images from unusual perspectives, such as ultralight, helicopter and paraglider. Indeed, seeing things from the heights offers an entirely different perspective, revealing a reality and power of nature that often escapes the eye at ground level.
Massimo stands out among European photographers having been awarded in the international competition of the United Nations "Focus on Your World" during the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro. His work has been recognized in some prestigious international competitions too, earning gold medal at the Tokyo Photo Awards - Aerial in 2021 and at Fine Art Awards the PX3-Paris in 2022.
