The Vistula river (Series)
DESCRIPTION
In August 2025, a historic low water level was recorded at the Warsaw Vistula Boulevards hydrological station. It reached only 6 cm. High temperatures, a prolonged drought, and a mild winter without snowfall significantly contributed to this situation. Significant erosion of the Vistula and human activity, such as the extraction of massive amounts of sand from the riverbed, are also among the main reasons. The water level in the Warsaw section dropped significantly, and in some sections the river took on the characteristics of a braided river. A shallow water surface and numerous islands appeared, between which the water divides, creating separate channels that later merge. This was the perfect moment to show the Vistula from a bird's eye view. The photographs were taken perpendicular to the river. Here, we can see numerous sandbanks, vegetation, changing colors, and closed ponds waiting for higher water levels. This is a project, which I called "Vistula - the non-obvious river" , and which is still ongoing.
