In the early 1970s, nature, which had previously been the subject of landscape photography, was transformed by humans and replaced by man-made structures, which were then re-emerged as a new landscape. This trend was called New Topographics.
Many of the large-scale facilities rapidly constructed in Japan around 1970 began to decline in the 1990s, and while some were restored, others ceased operation, decaying without ever being demolished and being consumed by vegetation. There, nature, mediated by human intervention, is forming a new landscape that changes every moment.
It can be seen as a counterattack by nature once destroyed by man-made structures, or a scene in which human activity and nature blend together over the passage of time. As an experiment, I coined the word "Chronotopographics," combining the prefix "chrono," which indicates time.
All of the photographs in this work were taken from directly above by a drone. When viewed from directly above, the structures lose their sense of size, departing from normal perception and resembling vestiges of an unknown civilization. It can be seen as an accumulation of history, or a symbol that transcends time.
