Color Abstraction is an ongoing exploration of color and form inspired by the abstract expressionist movement. In order to achieve the painterly images, I employ a multi-step process to create a digital video, replay and then take stills via 35mm film or digital camera during replay. This process allows me to control and manipulate the luminosity and form of the image prior to the shutter opening. Once the image is captured, I use minimal digital or darkroom manipulation to preserve the initial moment of inspiration.
My personal ethos developed before the rise of social media and focuses on prioritizing the authenticity of the moment of inspiration and intentionally limiting the shaping or directing of the viewer's interpretation of the images. In an era defined by visual saturation and algorithmic curation, she reaffirms her commitment to an unmediated dialogue between image and observer. Viewers are invited to navigate the exhibition through the lens of their own lived experiences, to feel rather than to define.

DESCRIPTION
AUTHOR
Jessie Marie is a New Orleans-based visual artist whose work explores the boundaries between light, line and form. She began her creative journey in both performing and visual arts, falling in love with photography after receiving her first camera from her grandparents. A graduate of Corcoran College of Art and Design, she has spent over 20 years developing two signature series: Color Abstraction and Light, Line, and Texture. After years raising a family, she returned to exhibiting, drawing inspiration from her grandfather’s late-life artistic pursuits. In 2025, she and her husband launched Jessie Marie Fine Art Gallery, an artist-run space dedicated to creating collaborative, immersive art experiences.
