In the space between inhalation and release, between shadow and emergence, lies a territory rarely mapped—the geography of inner transformation.
This series explores vulnerability not as weakness, but as a threshold. Each image captures a moment in the journey from self-protection to self-knowledge, from darkness as retreat to darkness as source. The body becomes a vessel for psychological states: contraction and expansion, hiding and revealing, the weight of shadows and the levity of light.
The faceless figure is intentional—she is not a portrait of one woman, but an archetype. She is the universal experience of turning inward before one can stand upright, of descending before ascending. The textured walls embody the roughness of internal landscapes—imperfect, scarred, authentic.
Light enters gradually, first as a rim illuminating edges, then as revelation. But the progression does not end in exposure. The final gesture—turned away from the viewer—is neither withdrawal nor rejection, but autonomy. She has completed her journey not by seeking external validation, but by discovering sufficiency within.
This is not about the body. This is about the soul's relationship to its own darkness, and the understanding that transformation is an internal reckoning, not a performance for others.

DESCRIPTION
AUTHOR
I am Aleksandr Sokolnikov, a fine art photographer from Tallinn, Estonia.
After a career as a engineer, I have dedicated my retirement years to professional photography—a passion that emerged at age 14 when I first picked up my father's camera.
Raised in a family that valued culture and art, I spent my youth visiting museums and galleries, absorbing the works of great masters. This early exposure had a profound influence on my photographic vision and aesthetic perception.
I practiced amateur photography in landscape, street, and portrait genres. In recent years, I have studied at photography schools, developing my artistic style. I work with a Nikon camera and specialize in portrait, fine art nude, and landscape photography.
My work focuses on a long-term project exploring the evolution of femininity — from youth to mature wisdom shaped by love, passion, and life's complexities.
My series "Between Breath and Shadow" represents the first chapter of this exploration, addressing the soul's relationship with its own darkness and the understanding that transformation is an internal reckoning, not a performance for others.
