An Ezo red fox (Kitakitsune) captured at dawn in Hokkaido, Japan's northernmost island.
Against a vast backdrop of snow-laden mountains and endless frozen plains, fresh snow clings to its thick winter fur and face—vividly embodying the raw, unyielding harshness of the wilderness.
In this extreme land where temperatures routinely plunge to -20°C ~ -30°C (and colder in the interior), the fox's dense, plush double-layered coat provides crucial insulation against blizzards and deep snow, allowing this resilient hunter to thrive amid the relentless cold.
