Photographed above the solar salt fields of Useless Loop in Shark Bay, Western Australia, this series examines the intersection of industry, light, and natural process.
Seawater is channelled through evaporation ponds where sun and wind gradually increase salinity. As mineral concentration shifts, the ponds transform into luminous planes of lavender, jade, ochre, and pale blue. From the air, these working salt fields read as abstraction — intersecting lines, geometric divisions, and vast colour blocks edged with crystallised white.
The structures are engineered, yet the palette is biologically and chemically driven. Halophilic microorganisms and varying salt densities generate the tonal variations that define each surface. Light further alters perception, flattening depth and emphasising form.
Together, the images explore control and collaboration: human design establishing boundaries while elemental forces determine the final expression. The result is a landscape that oscillates between precision and unpredictability — at once industrial, environmental, and painterly.

DESCRIPTION
AUTHOR
My work explores the quiet power of landscape—its shifting light, organic patterns, and the way land reveals itself when viewed from both ground and air. I am drawn to moments where place becomes abstract: lines shaped by water, colour formed by season, and terrain sculpted by time. These images sit between documentation and interpretation, inviting the viewer to slow down and engage with rhythm, form, and stillness rather than scale or geography.
My work has received international recognition, including winning the Gold Cup Award from Master Photographers International, First Place in the International Imaging Competition (Aerial), First Place in the Julia Margaret Cameron Award for Stories, a Judges’ Choice Award at the International Imaging Competition, and multiple Platinum, Gold, and Silver awards across major international photography competitions.
