This is one of my recent works from the ‘Reflection on our civilisation’ series. The inspiration for delving into this theme arose many years ago and has found subtle expression in several of my earlier works. The composition itself is intentionally minimalistic, featuring a limited selection of elements and tones. The key object used in this composition, the Madonna and child wooden carving has found shelter in my home long time ago and patiently waited to finally become part of this work, to shelter under Golgotha hill. Three rusty nails represent nails of crucified Jesus Christ.
This work serves as a visual allegory for the immense pain a mother experiences when witnessing the suffering and turmoil of her child—a tragedy that unfolds all too often in our world. The scene encapsulates the universal nature of maternal grief, reflecting on the recurring dramas faced by families across different times and places. Through this allegorical depiction, the piece invites the viewer to contemplate the depth of human sorrow and the emotional burden endured by mothers as they witness the hardships endured by their children.
