Artist Statement: Derelict
Title: Derelict Category: Fine Art (Series)
In the series 'Derelict', I explore the intersection of industrial permanence and ethereal transience. By placing heavy, discarded tools / relics of a manual past, within a landscape of drifting smoke, I aim to visualize the process of fading memory and the dissolution of matter.
The choice for a deep monochrome palette serves to emphasize the sculptural qualities of the objects, from the rusted textures of a soldering lamp to the solid mass of an electric motor. The smoke acts as a ghost-like presence, a fluid element that both highlights and consumes the subjects. It symbolizes the 'breath' of history still clinging to these abandoned items, even as they are reclaimed by time.
Through this sequence of five images, the series moves from structural clarity toward atmospheric abstraction. It is a study of the dignity found in decay, capturing the moment where the physical world begins to blur into the spiritual, leaving only a silhouette of what once was.
