Dear esteemed jury of the FAPA Fine Art Photography Awards,
It is with profound respect that I present "Echoes of Silence," a portrait that endeavors to transcend mere representation, delving instead into the profound contemplation of mortality. As a pictorialist photographer, my continuous quest has been to bridge the realms of painting and photography. In this piece, I found in the dramatic chiaroscuro of the Baroque, imbued with Caravaggio's spirit, the perfect lexicon to evoke the solemnity and mystery of life's ultimate chapter.
The young subject, enveloped in a somber black veil, transforms into a timeless figure, an allegory of human fragility confronting the precipice of the final breath. The raven's feather, held with a delicate grace, symbolizes not only death but also the indelible marks of writing and knowledge, a poignant reminder that life and demise are but interwoven chapters of the same grand narrative. The light, dramatic and purposeful, sculpts the contours of the face, unveiling an expression of serene introspection, devoid of fear, inviting the viewer into an intimate reflection on their own mortality. My intention is for this image to engage in a silent dialogue with the observer, offering a space to meditate on the ephemeral, the beautiful, and the transcendent.
With "Echoes of Silence," I aspire not only to achieve a composition of potent aesthetic force but also to ignite an emotional and philosophical experience—a visual echo designed to resonate deeply within the soul.
Sincerely,
Diego Orlando

DESCRIPTION
AUTHOR
I'm Diego Orlando and I seek the light in a world of shadows.
orn in San Sebastian, Spain, pictorialist photographer.
My photographic vocation is born from the tireless search for the light capable of illuminating a personal world full of shadows. A complicated, introspective, passionate and poetic journey from which I feed to interpret my most intimate universe. A path that goes hand in hand and in communion with several disciplines of Fine Arts.
My art work is not born or presented with the aim of reflecting the technical capacity currently offered by millions of megapixels. On the contrary, the "flou effect" and "mannerism" that bathe part of my photographs is a form of protest against the current academic photographic purism.
The purpose of my work is to investigate and incorporate new technologies to the traditional way of doing photography in order to create a work of art with its own identity and language. Precious, baroque photographs, with a profusion of details, full of allegories and labyrinths hidden in their shadows, fabrics and textures.
University Master of Creative Photography in Catalonia 2016-2018.
