DESCRIPTION
The "Karatoyama Shinji Sumo" in Ishikawa, Japan, is a traditional ritual with a history spanning over 2,000 years. Its origins lie in a sacred offering to comfort the spirit of a local deity who was known for his love of the sport.
In the profound darkness beyond the reach of city lights, the earthen ring illuminated like a spotlight felt like a stage from another world. The intense physical collision of the men transcended mere competition, radiating a sublime and sculptural beauty.
