The five-figure series stages the most important treasures of Aachen Cathedral. The series was created within the scope of a website project by Interactive Pioneers, which presents the Aachen Cathedral in a visually very impressive way (www.aachenerdom.de): By means of a scrollable 3D tour, the five sights for which the motifs were shot are spatially connected.
Formally the compositions follow strict cross- or axis-symmetry. By means of HDR technology, which combines 7 individual exposures and subsequent retouching, a perfect lighting mood could be created despite the challenging lighting situation and the many reflecting surfaces in the cathedral.
The Aachen Cathedral was built around the year 800 by Emperor Charlemagne and is the coronation church of more than 30 German kings. It houses some of the most important relics of Christianity as well as the remains of Charlemagne. It has been the first German UNESCO World Cultural Heritage since 1978. It is commonly regarded as a symbol of the birth of modern Europe.
