“HOUESCAPE” is a portmanteau ward mixed with “house”, “scape” and “escape”.
I was brought up in 70’s when whole nation was about to be turned into modern life style. While it’s movement was welcomed by many people for their bright future, it seemed to me quite brutal in terms of environmental and cultural context, especially towards old Japanese houses and landscape, and now it’s turned into critical condition.
So, I kept thinking how to make it best balance between destructive and preservative matter. Thus, I took it account, and started this project. So I cut up good old Japanese house and landscape to transfer them into modern art format, in order to describe how much capability or possibility the old Japanese wooden house has in modern context, in which idea relate to deconstructive or postmodern theory.
With this “HOUESCAPE” project, I represent three main themes that first one is deconstructive theory in which contained contradiction, for instance preventive vaccination for immune strengthen, second is harmony between culture and nature in modern life-style environment and the last one is reflective or critical image, since I believe that image on its own must be interpreted and reconstructed or depicted by every individual.
