Landscape nominee

I wish to communicate a personal visual account of my homeland. I believe that the Cypriot countryside as hiding a uniqueness and a small-scale beauty that requires an attentive look to be truly noticed and valued. The island’s small size, coupled with the seemingly unthreatening, tame and giving character that defines the Mediterranean environment, often tricks us into setting nature aside and separating it from ourselves, and into forgetting both its unparalleled natural landscape and its unequalled cultural heritage. Through this body of work i attempt to show Cyprus not just as another ‘holiday’ island, but as more vast and unexpected. By leaving a more symbolic interpretation and allowing each image to depict the different aspects of the island's rich characteristics rather than identifiable locations i try to convey the importance and ‘value’ of our natural and cultural heritage which is often overlooked.
