Night Photography nominee

A glimpse into the world at night in rural northwest Minnesota, photographer Megan Sugden creates stunning and colorful images enhanced by the natural phenomenon known as the Northern Lights. Adding depth and interest to her images, she prefers to go beyond simply a wide landscape view and places subjects in the foreground such as abandoned houses and vehicles, showing there is beauty and mystery even in hidden the darkness. Bringing further depth to each subject, she carefully "light paints" using only a flash light during exposure to bring out a unique look to each image she photographs.

Megan Sugden is an award winning photographer from Hallock, MN. Her work has been featured in National Geographic, The Sunflower, Prairie Grains, The Farmer, City Pages and Make it Minnesota, gaining national recognition of her popular Northern Lights series, featuring beautiful images of local churches, farms and homesteads set against a stunning background of northern lights and the Milky Way. Megan also runs a successful portrait and wedding business and enjoys spending time with her husband and three children.

Megan's exhibit "Kittson County Skies" exhibition is currently on display in East Grand Forks, MN at the River Walk Art Gallery.
