The Legacy Series serves as an affirmation of our planet, with all its fantastic possibilities of life – and as a reminder that we are all a tiny part – here for a fleeting time. There are millions of years ahead – of which we know nothing. It questions what our role will be while we are here, what impact we will have, and what we will leave behind. As Legassick’s exploration has developed he has looked beyond humanity towards biology and ecology, with Legacy (Woodland) featuring the top 25 most endangered species today.
In “Legacy (Home)”, Legassick explores how man-made structures and nature interact, using the backdrop of the ghost town of Kolmamskop in the Namib desert, Namibia – a mining town that boomed in the early 1900’s due to rich deposits of diamonds, but then later became a ghost town once the diamond field had finally exhausted.
In Legacy (San Bushman), Legassick explores the fragile existence of the San Bushmen, from the remnants of Africa’s oldest cultural group, genetically the closest surviving people to the original Homo sapiens “core”, to an uncertain future in progressive society where hunter gatherer ways are being replaced by high street chain stores.
