The development of the glaciers stretched globally over a period of thousands of years. The current climate warming and warming of the earth accelerates the melting of most glaciers worldwide. Regrettably, people have recognized these connections too late. Nature offers us here the spectacle of a dying glacier.
The Rhone Glacier is one of the best explored and documented glaciers in the world. Global warming could have left the glaciers disappearing in this century. The effects of climate warming do not seem to be easily visible to people, but this is not the case with this Swiss glacier.
My photographs of 2016 show the different measures of workers, researchers who want to save part of this glacier in southern Switzerland. The numerous planes from fleece on the glacier surface are supposed to reflect the warm sunlight. Inside this glacier there is a large, artificial ice cave for visitors. The BBC Travel Show team has produced a report about the rescue of the ice cave.
When we look beyond the glacier, we discover a strange landscape with new, surprising facets. In the unusual silence reveals bizarre forms of ice and covered glacier fronts, which seem to us like unreal, majestic icebergs.
