Seven-year old Félice and Frédérique are mirror twins. This is a rare and fascinating type of identical twins. They have the same physical features but opposite as in a mirror, like hair that whorls in opposite directions or opposite teeth. If one twin is right handed the other twin is left handed, the same holds for these sisters.
They also have a very different character and you can easily distinct them in a portrait: Félice with her serene and self-conscious look, and Frédérique with an expressive glance and nonchalant sparkle in her eyes. Very similar and different at the same time, the sisters have a unique band that I attempted to document.

Olga Rook is a photographer based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
Before turning to photographic art Olga obtained her master’s and PhD degrees in Medieval and Early Modern History and did research in Renaissance culture. A historian’s habit of focusing on the hazy texture of remote times while being rooted in the present moment helps her reflect on the limits of everyday perception. Her photography is about the metaphors and illusive worlds discovered and constructed through reflection and imagination.
