Voyage to the Wilds of British Columbia (Series)
DESCRIPTION
These images were taken during an October 2016 voyage aboard a small 12-crew converted fishing trawler in the British Columbian wilderness. The small boat was able to navigate the mix of fresh and salt sea waters with depths that ranged from 55 to 500 feet unlike the large cruise ships that were too heavy to navigate the shallower channels. There were no hotels, restaurants, cafes, and no internet. There were only a few remote fishing villages consisting mostly of native Canadians, who have long inhabited these isles. There was a wild beauty in this remote archipelago that remains hidden from most human eyes with the exception of the native Canadian tribes who are still stewards of their ancestral lands and waterways, albeit a significantly smaller fraction of their original holdings. However, this unique environment is fragile, and faces many risks: from vanishing beneath rising sea levels, to continued destruction of old growth forests via the logging industry to the negative environmental impacts of impending oil pipeline development. I hope I have captured a fraction of the wild, beautiful spirit of the British Columbian wilds while it remains.
