DESCRIPTION
This is an unseen image I captured recently off the coast of Vava'u, Kingdom of Tonga. One of the most amazing displays of 'wildlife' I have ever come across as this huge female Humpback whale fed her (male) calf. I have seen whales suckling beofore but never in this position and never in such a relaxed state. The mother was in a sleeping position with her head pointed down and her tail (fluke) pointed upright. It was amazing to watch the calf slowly swim in towards her sideways and gently position himself to start feeding. I completely blacked out the entire background in Photoshop to ensure the subject is what draws the eye, this meant some detail of the mother is lost, which adds more of a question as to what is going on. I want my work to leave people wanting more, asking questions and in this is what becomes real fine art. Photographed unter natural light while free diving.
