Antarctic Penguins (Series)
DESCRIPTION
In this series I will present part of the work made along four years in many Antarctic islands and in the Antarctic Peninsula. Penguins are beautiful and charismatic animals, which are somewhat clumsy in land, but with an impressive agility in the water. These non-flying sea birds can spend 75% of their lives in the sea, going to the land only to rest and breed. But these adorable penguins unfortunately are under threat, mainly due to climate changes, that leads to sea ice loss and increase of sea temperature. These changes, summed to environmental pollution, reduce phytoplankton production, from which krill feeds on, the main diet of penguins. The reduction on krill populations not only affects the penguins, but also many other Antarctic animals. It is urge to protect our planet and the oceans so that the next generations could have the opportunity to see these animals in nature as well.
